Syria and Russia are accusing Israel of carrying out an early morning missile strike on a Syrian air base in the central province of Homs. They say Syrian air defenses shot down five out of eight missiles fired by two Israeli F-15 warplanes. A monitoring group in Britain claims the missile attack killed 14 fighters, including allied Iranian forces. There was initial speculation the United States was responsible, but the Pentagon denied any involvement. US President Donald Trump had said there would be a "big price to pay", when reports of an alleged chemical attack in the rebel-held town of Douma emerged.
